Class DD – Culinary Crafts

Baking must be in between Thursday August 4, 2016 Between 6:30 pm – 8:30 pm or 
Friday August 5th Between 9:00 am – 11:00 am

BAKING to be removed on Friday August 5 at 4:00 pm when judging is completed.
All baking to be double tagged, in clean plastic bags, no plastic wraps, no elastic closures, no commercial mixes or fillings – unless specifically states. Thank you!

PIES (ON FOIL)

New foil plate should be tempered before use in 400 degree F oven, 
for at least 10 minutes, or bottom of pie will not cook.

* Please note section 16 - 18 must be place on foil wrapped cardboard 1" larger than the cake

18. Husbands Cake

Husbands Cake Recipe
3/4 cup cooking oil
1 1/2 cups sugar
1 can tomato soup (10 oz)
3/4 cup water
1 tsp soda
3 cups flour
3/4 tsp salt
3 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp cloves
1 1/2 tsp nutmeg
1 1/2 cups raisins
1 1/2 cups walnuts, optional

Mix oil and sugar.  Stir in soup with water.  Add dry ingredients, raisins, walnuts.
Beat well. Bake in 9 x 13 inch greased pan about 50 minutes at 350 degrees.

Squares – Biscuits Cookies - Please do not use commercial mixes. Cookies and squares are to be approximately 2 inches in diameter - unless otherwise stated.

19. Chocolate Chip Cookies (5)- include a copy of your choco chip cookie recipe written on vintage looking paper. Recipes will be on display.

22. Brownies - no nuts (5)

24. Chocolate Fudge - 5 Pieces - cut in 1 inch pieces

Loaves – Muffins
Muffins on plate or trays, NO PAPERS. Loaves please cut in half. Enter one half of the loaf in a clean plastic bag. No commercial mixes.
Prizes: 1st - $4.00, 2nd - $3.00, 3rd - $2.00

28. Carrot Pineapple Muffins (no nuts) (5)

Yeast Bread & Buns
Prizes: 1st - $4.00, 2nd - $3.00, 3rd - $2.00

29. Loaf white bread
30. White Dinner Rolls or buns - 5
31. Open section - your favourite loaf of yeast bread - except for white or 60% whole wheat
32. Loaf 60 % whole wheat baked in 4" x 8" x 21/2" loaf pan. Winner to supply loaf of bread for District Competition in October/November

COMMERCIAL MIXES:
The following baking items may be made with Commercial mixes. Place cake on foil covered cardboard 1” larger than the cake. 
Prizes: 1st - $4.00, 2nd - $3.00, 3rd $2.00

33. Brownies –  (5)
34. Double layer white cake iced – 8” round 
35. Blueberry Muffins –  (5)

DIRECTORS SPECIAL 
Prizes: 1st 20, 2nd $10, 3rd $5
36. Queen Elizabeth Cake with topping. Please place cake on a foil wrapped cardboard - 1" larger than cake. Cake size 9" x 13" pan. Please include recipe for cake and topping in a vintage looking paper.  Recipe will be on display with cake. 
Cake will be kept on display for the weekend of Fair.

Additional Prizes:

Most points in culinary crafts and pickles & preserves - Prize voucher from Zehrs Foodmarket.
Most points in sections 1 - 14 of culinary crafts - $15 prize voucher from Drayton Foodmarket.
First time exhibitor with most points in culinary crafts and Pickles & Preserves will be awarded 1 year subscription to CANADIAN LIVING  magazine. Please mark on entry tag N.E. - new exhibitor.  The winner please contact Arlie Zantinge (Treasurer) during the fair weekend for the details.
