CULINARY CRAFTS

Class DD – Culinary Crafts

Baking must be in between Thursday August 10, 2016 Between 6:30 pm – 8:30 pm or 
Friday August 11th Between 9:00 am – 11:00 am

BAKING to be removed on Friday August 11 at 4:00 pm when judging is completed.
The following sections will be on display during the fair: 1, 35, 36,37,38.
All baking to be double tagged, in clean plastic bags, no plastic wraps, no elastic closures, no commercial mixes or fillings – unless specifically states. Thank you for participating.

PIES (ON FOIL)

New foil plate should be tempered before use in 400 degree F oven, 
for at least 10 minutes, or bottom of pie will not cook.

Prizes: 1st - $6.00, 2nd $4.00, 3rd - $3.00
  1. Apple Pie - lattice top - Winning pie will be on display for the Fair.
  2. Raspberry pie , fancy top
  3. Blueberry pie, fancy top
  4. Butter tarts (5, full size ) Winning tarts  will be eligible  to go to district meeting in November , no  fruit  other than raisins, no nuts  Please put on a clean paper plate inside of a clear plastic plate , double tag.                                                                                

SPECIALS: 1st prize becomes the property of donor.

12. Ron Ellis Special – 2 layer Chocolate cake – Chocolate icing-  No Date Filling
13. John Cherrey Special – 2 layer Chocolate cake – Chocolate icing
14. Nadine Peel Special – 2 layer Chocolate Cake WITH DATE FILLING
15. Edith Schieck Special - gum drop cake 9"x4"pan whole loaf 1st - $15,  2nd $3, 3rd -$2
16. Edith Schieck Special- 2 crusted apple pie, no cinnamon, apple pie spice is acceptable
17. Dale Franklin Special - Carrot Cake with nuts, Cream Cheese Icing ,9" x 13"
* Please note section 12,13.14,15 and 17 must be placed on foil wrapped cardboard 1" larger than the cake.


Carrot and Beet loaf

1 1/2 cups white sugar
1 cup oil
1 tsp. vanilla
3 egg yolks, beaten
3 Tbsp. hot water
Blend and add:
1 cup shredded beet
1 cup shredded carrot
3/4 cup raisins
2 cups flour
2 tsp baking powder
1 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp salt
2 tsp baking powder
Beat 3 egg whites and fold into mixture, Bake at 350" in loaf pan for 45 min

Squares – Biscuits Cookies - Please do not use commercial mixes. Cookies and squares are to be approximately 2 inches in diameter - unless otherwise stated.

Prizes: 1st - $4.00, 2nd $3.00, 3rd $2.00

21. Chocolate Chip Cookies (5)- include a copy of your choco chip cookie recipe written on vintage looking paper. Recipes will be on display.
22. Oatmeal chocolate chip (5)
23. Sugar Cookies(5)
24. Brownie, no nuts (5)
25. Date Squares (5)
26. Chocolate Fudge - 5 Pieces - cut in 1 inch pieces

Loaves – Muffins
Muffins on plate or trays, NO PAPERS. Loaves please cut in half. Enter one half of the loaf in a clean plastic bag. No commercial mixes.
Prizes: 1st - $4.00, 2nd - $3.00, 3rd - $2.00

Yeast Bread & Buns
Prizes: 1st - $4.00, 2nd - $3.00, 3rd - $2.00

32. White Dinner Rolls  - 5

COMMERCIAL MIXES:
The following baking items may be made with Commercial mixes. Place cake on foil covered cardboard 1” larger than the cake. 
Prizes: 1st - $4.00, 2nd - $3.00, 3rd $2.00

33. Brownies –  (5)
34. Double layer white cake iced – 8” round 
35. Blueberry Muffins –  (5)

DIRECTORS SPECIAL 
Prizes: 1st $20, 2nd $10, 3rd $5
36. Happy Canada Day!   Double layer round cake iced and decorated in red and white .
37. Maple Fudge 5 pieces cut into 1" pieces
38. Nanaimo Squares - 5 pieces cut into 1" pieces, - no mixes
39. Maple Walnut Muffins - 5,  papers to be removed
these 4 classes  will be kept on display for the weekend of Fair.



Additional Prizes:

Most points in culinary crafts and pickles & preserves - Prize voucher from Zehrs Foodmarket.
Most points in sections 1 - 17 of culinary crafts - $15 prize voucher from Drayton Foodmarket.
First time exhibitor with most points in culinary crafts and Pickles & Preserves will be awarded 1 year subscription to CANADIAN LIVING  magazine. Please mark on entry tag N.E. - new exhibitor.  The winner please contact Arlie Zantinge (Treasurer) during the fair weekend for the details.
