Class DD - Culinary Crafts

Baking must arrive on Thursday, August 8, 2019 between 7 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. or
on Friday, August 9, 2019 between 9 a.m. - 11 a.m.
All baking to be picked up on Friday, August 9, 2019.

The following sections will be on displayed during the Fair:
Section 1, 31, 32, 33.

All baking is to have 2 entry tags attached in clean plastic bags. No plastic wrap and no elastic closures. No commercial mixes or fillings unless specifically stated. Thank you for participating!

PIES:  Pies baked on foil. ***New foil plates should be tempered before use in 400 degree F oven for at least 10 minutes or the bottom of the pies will not cook.
Prizes: 1st  = $10, 2nd = $5, 3rd = $3
1.  Apple Pie - lattice top - Winning Apple Pie will be on display for the Fair.
2.  Raspberry pie - fancy top
3.  Blueberry pie - fancy top
4.  Raisin Butter tarts (5) - Winning baker of tarts will bake tarts for District 7 meeting in November 2019.
 
SPECIALS:  First prize becomes property of the donor.

5.  Connie Walker Special - Raspberry & Red Currant Pie
6.  Connie Walker Special - Carrot & Beet Loaf - 1 whole loaf to be handed in please. Recipe can be found at the end of this section.
7.  Mary Hilborn Special - 1 dozen butter tarts
8.  Darlene Brodhaecker Special - Cherry Pie
9.  Robert Peel Special - Dutch Apple Pie
10.  Allan Cherrey Special - Peach Pie double crust. First & second place pies go to the donor. ***Prize money for Section 10: 1st = $10, 2nd = $8, 3rd = $ 2
11.  Ron Bults Special - Peach Pie - lattice top - No nutmeg. Thank you!
*12.  Ron Ellis Special - 8" round, double layer chocolate cake with chocolate icing - no date filling
*13.  John Cherrey Special - 8" round, double layer chocolate cake, iced with chocolate icing
*14.  Nadine Peel Special -  8" round, double layer chocolate cake  iced with chocolate icing WITH DATE FILLING
15.  Edith Schieck Special - 2 crust apple pie, No cinnamon. Apple spice is accepted.
16.  Edith Schieck Special - Gum drop cake - 9"x 4".
***Please note sections 12,1 3 & 14 must be placed on foil wrapped cardboard 1" larger than the cake.
 
Carrot and Beet Loaf
1 ½ cups white sugar
1 cup oil
1 tsp vanilla
3 egg yolks beaten
3 tbsp hot water
Blend and add:
1 cup shredded beet
1 cup shredded carrot
¾ cup raisins
2 cups flour
1 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp salt
2 tsp baking powder
Beat 3 egg whites and fold into mixture. Bake at 350 degree F in a loaf pan for 45 minutes.

CAKES
Prizes: 1st = $5, 2nd = $4, 3rd = $3
***Please place cakes on foil wrapped cardboard 1" larger than the cake. Size of pan 9" x 9".

SQUARES, BISCUITS & COOKIES - Please do not use commercial mixes. Cookies & squares are to be approximately 2 " in diameter (unless otherwise stated).

19.  Chocolate Chip Cookies (5)
20.  Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies (5)
21.  Sugar Cookies  (5)
22.  Brownies - no nuts (5)
23.  Date squares (3)
24.  Chocolate Fudge (5 pieces - cut into 1 inch pieces)

LOAVES & MUFFINS
Prizes: 1st = $4, 2nd = $3, 3rd = 2
Muffins to be placed on plate or tray, no paper linings. Please cut loaves in half.
Enter one half of loaf in clean plastic bag. No commercial mixes.
25.  Lemon loaf (½ loaf)
26.  Banana loaf  (½ loaf)
27. Chocolate chip muffins (3)
28. Banana muffins - no nuts (3)

YEAST BREAD & BUNS
Prizes: 1st = $4, 2nd = $3, 3rd = $2

30.  White Dinner rolls (3) 
 
"Catchin' Farm Fever" section 31 - 33. Items 31, 32, 33 will be kept on display for Drayton Fair weekend. Thank you for participating!

31.  Director’s Special Prize - 1st = $20, 2nd = $10, 3rd = $5 - 8" double layer round cake iced and decorated as an outdoor farm scene.
Prizes: 1st = $4, 2nd = $3, 3rd = $2
32.  Apple squares - 3 pieces cut into 1" pieces.
33. Blueberry muffins (3). No paper liners. No mixes please.
